3GP™ is designed to give safe, certified, continuous running to all types of Zone 2 electronic or mechanical diesel engines.
3GP works in conjunction with the Pyroban explosion protection kit offering numerous benefits including eliminating the need for exhaust flame arresters (associated with daily maintenance costs) whilst maintaining full ATEX 94/9/EC compliance.
3GP incorporates gas detection and a control and monitoring system and has been rigorously tested independently with approval from ATEX notified body Sira and DNV.
It is suitable for all types of mechanical and electronically controlled engines. For single and twin engine packages and can be retrofitted to existing equipment.
3GP background and an end to exhaust flame arresters
To comply with ATEX 94/9/EC (95) Directive through meeting the requirements of BSEN1834-1:2000, all Zone 2 diesel powered equipment should include an exhaust flame arrester, unless elimination can be proved by test.
- Exhaust flame arresters are maintenance intensive and require changing every 8-24 hours due to soot and carbon deposits. This causes downtime, manual handling issues and promotes the use of dummy flame arresters (blanks that do not prevent flames releasing to atmosphere).
These issues are age old industry problems and Pyroban saw an opportunity to try and eliminate exhaust flame arresters from their system without reducing overall levels of safety whilst still complying with the ATEX Directives.

ATEX however provided an opportunity for new thinking and as a result 3GP was launched with full certification for the offshore environment through using technology to eliminate the need for an exhaust flame arrester.
